It may have turned bitterly cold in Lodz, Poland this January but it’s the JEMSS project that’s heating up! The JEMSS team spanning 5 countries from across Europe are all meeting in the 4th Partner meeting.
The team meet face to face and discuss the latest developments, including course structure, marketing updates and of course the JEMSS project conference in September 2016 and launch of the course later this year! Since the last meeting in Thessaloniki, Greece, the project continues to work towards developing a leading Masters in Digital Marketing which isn’t only up to date, hands-on and cross European, but we’re planning on integrating the most modern learning styles using MOOC platforms and live case studies from search and social media campaigns right across the continent.
The success of the Digital and Social Media Marketing MOOC

What has become apparent throughout the project is the desire from so many students across Europe to engage with the Digital Marketing community and further their knowledge. The recent Digital and Social Media Marketing MOOC that was run on the Iversity platform attracted over 14k registrations with little promotion (because of its pilot status), with the majority completing the first tier of the course and a larger than expected amount proceeding to the exam and certificate.
It’s these figures that give continued encouragement to the whole JEMSS team throughout the project. The MOOC was the focus of one session at this meeting where we discussed the feedback from the participants and how to improve the delivery of it in future MOOCs which will hopefully follow later this year.
There’s always room for improvement but the team will be keeping their fingers crossed at The Northern Digital Awards in January where the MOOC has been nominated for Best Digital Marketing Campaign in the 3rd Sector category.
Digital and Social Media Marketing book
In addition to the cutting edge delivery of academic learning through the MOOC platform is the creation of a book to accompany the course learning. With the majority of the academics in the team having a firm grasp on the theory behind Digital Marketing, we’ve recognised the need for practitioners to contribute to the book and that will happen with input from industry figures from the Digital Industry across Europe.
The book will also be bursting with case studies. Marketing Service Providers and eCommerce Businesses will both contribute to the book giving examples of successful search and social media strategies which have helped grow their businesses. These case studies aim to continue the overall theme of the learning style which is the combination of academic learning and hands on digital marketing activities.
Digital and Social Media Marketing conference
As the JEMSS project’s 3 year lifespan nears completion, its time to begin planning the finale. The Digital Marketing Conference will be held in Sofia in Bulgaria in mid September and will showcase the findings of the project. This will include the invaluable research conducted in the first year when SMEs and Students both provided feedback on what they want from a Digital Marketing Masters.
The Digital and Social Media Marketing conference will also present the differences in attitudes across Europe to Digital Marketing. Mixed views on different social media platforms for example Twitter being one of the less common in some of the partner countries and look at how funding options may hinder or help students study and learn in different counties.
The exact location of the conference is currently being finalised but Sofia in Bulgaria undoubtedly will deliver a captivating conference to reflect it growing energy from a passionate Digital Marketing sector. Keep tuned to find out more details and ensure to sign up to the community for regular updates.
Thank you to Lodz!
It only leaves us to thank the University of Lodz for their kind hospitality throughout the 3 days in Lodz.
The town, positioned in the centre of Poland, with around 600,000 inhabitants who are lucky to live in a rapidly growing modern place which offers not only leading education from the faculty but great shopping and food which we all experienced first hand.
And for those who have already shopped ‘til they dropped, Star Wars was on offer at the impressive Cinema City in the Manufaktura complex to pass the evening between meetings!
