In search of students interested in Digital and Social Media Marketing

Digital and Social Media Marketing

A three year project (JEMSS) started to develop a Joint European Masters programme in Digital and Social Media Marketing in October 2013. This project aims to develop digital marketing professionals for the new era of marketing. The digital economy evolves and companies need to be more competitive, by adopting new marketing strategies based on new technologies. The new masters program addresses the following four key challenges faced by the industry:

  1. The lack of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Social Media Optimization (SEO) skilled employees
  2. The low employability opportunities for graduates on conventional marketing programmes
  3. Search and Social Media technologies are a catalyst to help grow the Economy
  4. Lack of relevant university placements and internships in Digital and Social Media Marketing

Thus, the master’s programme aims to provide theoretical and practical vision on how to promote organisations through positioning strategy using search engines, social media and other digital technologies on the Internet.

The importance of Digital and Social Media Marketing

Our world is digitally advancing at a very quick rate. Individually, the consumption rate of digital content is increasing thanks to information technology: mobile phone, tablets, laptops and the success of social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. The rise of the digital age is not only influencing our individual lives but also the corporate world. Businesses today are adopting digital marketing because it represents the future strategy for marketing.

What then is Digital Marketing? In simple terms, digital marketing refers to the promotion of products, services or brands through the use of one or more forms of electronic media. With digital marketing, businesses are provided with the opportunity of increasing and improving the interactions and relationships with current and future customers on search engines, social networking sites, mobile applications (apps) and instant messaging systems.

Digital marketing provides a faster and more practical way for reaching to new and old customers. Some of the common features of Digital Marketing include:

  • Website content management (Search Engine Optimised content)
  • Blogs
  • Internet banner ads
  • Online video content
  • Email marketing
  • Social media marketing (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Tumblr, G+,etc.)

How the JEMSS project can help you develop your career in marketing

One of the main objectives of the JEMSS project is to create a platform for students venturing into a career as professional business marketers to gain the specific set of skills needed by the industry. Unlike any other institution or platform offering Social Media Masters, JEMSS develops a course for students with advanced social media training in a unique learning environment; balancing both latest researches in Digital and Social Media Marketing with the latest practices from the industry.

The industry insight and latest in Digital and Social Media Marketing Research is promised to be captured in real life projects, internships, case studies, a cutting edge core textbook and a wide variety of online learning materials. Also, students studying on the course will be exposed to developing strategic skills in Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Social Media Optimization (SMO), Analytics and Return on Investment (ROI).

JEMSS also helps in developing your business/entrepreneurship skills

In addition to developing students’ career in marketing, JEMSS aims to provide a platform for students to launch their own business. By partnering with leading companies and experienced academics, students will be provided with access to start-up advice as well as opportunities offered by the partner universities to develop their business ideas further.
